Welcome to the Cornish Talking newspaper

THE CORNISH TALKING NEWSPAPER & MAGAZINE ASSOCIATION (CTN) was founded in 1973 by the late Bill Boggia. It was one of the earliest to be started. There are several hundred Talking Newspapers or Magazines in the country and most belong to the Talking News Federation.

The Comish Talking Newspaper started life in the Convent of the Epiphany (now The Alverton Manor Hotel). Then for about 12 years we rented a Cornwall County Council canteen building for which we were grateful but it was very cold and damp. When Comwall Blind Association purchased their headquarters at Newham we were able to rent two rooms from them.

After we received funding, donations and grants we were able to convert to digital recording on USB memory stick in July 2012.

In 2015 the Association's studio moved to a new location in Callenick Street, Truro.

We send out a USB Flash memory stick each week (except for the Bank Holidays). It includes Cornish News taken from various local newspapers and there is a magazine section with articles, stories and the occasional interview.

We make no charge and the Royal Mail delivers Articles for the Blind free of charge. Anyone who is blind or visually impaired may ask to be on our mailing list: we receive names from Social Services, relatives and the Cornwall Blind Association. Currently we have just over 140 listeners on our register and send out an
average of 100 copies a week.

Our expenses (rent, stationary, postage, replacement tapes, insurance and maintenance of the recording equipment etc) are paid for from donations from individuals, groups, in lieu of flowers at funerals, fund raising and from local charities such as Rotary, The Lions Club and Round Table. All our labour is voluntary and we have approximately 66 volunteers on the roll working on a rota basis doing different jobs, these are script editors, readers, sound engineers, postal reception, registrars and printers.
